What they don’t teach you in the classroom
There is no doubt in my mind that there are hundreds, if not thousands of current/future fitness professionals that are more qualified to provide their services than ever before. Long gone are the days of "weekend certificates" holding any clout in the fitness industry. The high-end of our field is now leaning towards those of us with nationally accredited certifications and college degrees, and that’s exactly why I decided to pursue a Masters Degree.

Personally, I experienced a lot of growing pains after, obtaining my Masters Degree in Kinesiology. The biomechanics, physiology and psychology of exercise all came effortlessly, but I was shocked when the clients didn’t line up at the door like I thought they were going to. It was a cold truth to realize that an upper-level education wasn’t enough in this industry; that was only half of what I needed for success. My growing pains came from getting potential clients to trust me and convincing them to invest in my services.

A lot of people in this industry like to say that you have to "pay your dues", "learn the hard way", and "climb the ladder like everyone else in this industry". I figure that if I had received some instruction on how to market my education and top-notch qualifications, that ladder might have been a bit busier to climb.

Perhaps you’ve already experienced the frustration of having all of the book-knowledge without getting the clientele that you expected. Whether or not you have, you will not find success unless you learn everything about marketing yourself in the fitness industry. You can either "learn the hard way" and go at it all alone like I did, or you can avoid all the mistakes that I have made and walk along a clearer path to success.
